Corporate systems development and modernization

When you need not just an assessment but delivery: building a company's internal or customer-facing system, or bringing an existing one into shape. I take responsibility for the outcome — that the system works, fits your infrastructure and doesn't let anyone down.

When companies bring me in

  • An internal system is outdated, but it can't be switched off — the work depends on it.
  • What you already have needs to be connected: accounting, access, payments, telephony.
  • You have a contractor, but the result doesn't fit the company's real processes.
  • You need a customer-facing system, not a "website": a client portal, a platform, a marketplace.
  • A system needs to be brought to a state where it can be supported without its author.

What you get

  • A system that solves the business problem and fits into what already works.
  • Responsibility for the outcome, not for hours logged.
  • An architecture built for growth, without needless complexity.
  • Clear estimates and a predictable course of work.

How I work

  1. We start from the business goal and from what already exists: systems are almost never built on a blank page.
  2. I design so that the solution survives growth and change rather than demanding a rewrite in a year.
  3. I deliver myself or with a team, depending on scope; responsibility for the outcome stays with me either way.
  4. I integrate with what works for you: accounting, access, payments, telephony.
  5. I bring it to a state where the system can be supported without me.

From practice

  • Internal corporate portal — a large company's internal system: HR, documents, time & attendance.

FAQ

Do you build websites?
No. This is about corporate systems — internal and customer-facing: where there are processes, integrations and a real cost of error.
Do you work alone or with a team?
It depends on scope. I bring in a team when needed; responsibility for the outcome stays with me.
Can you improve something written by others?
Yes, that's a common case. We start from what's there and change only what gets in the way.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the scope and the state of what's already built. I give an estimate after I understand the task, not before.
What if it's easier to rewrite?
I don't propose rewriting a system when the problem can be solved another way. First we work out what the problem actually is.
